Reports show that about 1 in 3 American adults has high blood pressure and that 1 in 4 people die of heart disease yearly, making it the number one cause of death in the United States.
Lowering blood pressure is on the agenda for adults of all ages and studies have found a new solution that may work better than prescribed medication: cherry juice.
Cherry Juice and Your Blood Pressure
Researchers at Northumbria University, Newcastle took 15 men with hypertension (blood pressure about 130/90) and gave them 60 ml of Montmorency cherry concentrate or a generic fruit flavored cordial.
The participants had their blood pressure measured before they drank the cherry juice and then once each hour afterwards. They were also given cardiovascular screenings and blood tests hourly to check their heart health.
The researchers and participants were excited to find that the participants experienced a drop in blood pressure of 7mmHg three hours after drinking the cherry juice. A reduction of 7mmHg is significant because the study states that dropping 5-6mmHg in blood pressure levels reduces the risk of heart disease by 23% and stroke by 38%.
The lead author of the study, Karen Keans, reported that the Montmorency cherry concentrate produced comparable results as one anti-hypertensive drug. Meaning, cherry concentrate could potentially be used as a substitute for medication to treat hypertension.

As research continues to develop for Montmorency cherry concentrate, more good news could be on the way for cherry juice and your blood pressure. If results continue to be positive, a simple switch to cherry concentrate could resolve blood pressure issues naturally.
